Good Friday Morning

I am sad without my Earl Grey. I made Darjeeling tea and its just not the same.
Couldn't sleep this morn so I got up to look for some articles for amomslove.com and
do a little cleaning before we go to color eggs with one of my grandsons. Later I will go visit my cousin. We were born two weeks apart and have been very close. I am going to make a little salad to take with me. Bernie will be heading to the museum to find some dinosaur toys for my daughter to put in our grandson's Easter Basket.

Khimbu Ice Fall

Can you imagine going over the khimbu ice fall..that is where you get to quit..and what insanity. a crevasse that moves so if it happens to move when you are going across it...you may die.

Into Thin Air

I am watching "Into Thin Air" Cannot tell you how much I am enamoured of Everest.
Just some weird reason..I love this book..and am watching the movie on weather channel. Why is something that is unattainable, so beautiful, I don't know. It must be because it's a few that get to share the experience. That must be what makes it "special". Pittsburgh It's tonight! Indies for Indies

You have got to support Independent Film in Pittsburgh...
This is an innovative series at an innovative theatre...
Go check it out! Tonight at 4:30...or this afternoon, I mean.

Indies for Indies

Lucas McNelly is working with the Hollywood Theater in Dormont on a series called “Indies for Indies”, a screening series that strives to work with filmmakers to grow their audience in the greater Pittsburgh region,
and brings to Pittsburgh the type of films that struggle to get
traditional distribution. They’re bringing to town some of the best
films from the festival circuit, films from Sundance and SXSW, as well
as a few World Premieres.

It’s rare in that it gives filmmakers a portion of the ticket sales,
thus helping them get that much closer to the ever-elusive financial
break-even point.

The series, which will run weekly, will show a different film each
week (three screenings–Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday), starting on
March 6th with the World Premiere of Iranian-American filmmaker Amir
Motlagh’s WHALE, coupled with David Lowery’s award-winning short A CATALOG OF ANTICIPATIONS.

Lucas and Hollywood Theater at Dormont thinks this is a great thing for Pittsburgh, both for audiences looking for something different and the local indie film community that’s struggling to find an audience (one of their priorities will be quality local features, as they become available), and they’d much appreciate it if you would be willing to help spread the word. Maybe a thing on the morning show where you preview that week’s film or a plug on the webpage or a feature on the start of the series or something.

Screenings:
Sat @ 4:30pm
Mon @ 7pm
Tues @ 9:30pm

At the Hollywood Theater (1449 Potomac Ave, 15216)

They have a really cool lineup, films from SXSW, Sundance, and a couple World Premieres.

Here’s the first couple films in our schedule (pretty well locked in):

March 6-9: Amir Motlagh’s WHALE (World Premiere), with short David
Lowery’s A CATALOG OF ANTICIPATIONS (Official Selection, Slamdance, SXSW, Palm Springs Shorts, AFI Dallas, etc)

March 13-16: Jarrod Whaley’s HELL IS OTHER PEOPLE (Official Selection, 2010 Cinequest), with a world premiere of a short from the
Netherlands(!), Peet Gelderblom’s OUT OF SYNC

March 20-23: TBA (depends on whether or not the filmmaker can get the stuff to me in time. if not, they may move something up from April
that’s not listed here)

March 27-30: The Butler Brothers’ CONFUSIONS OF AN UNMARRIED COUPLE, winner of 7 awards internationally including: AUDIENCE CHOICE (Indiana Independent), INDIE SPIRIT (ReelHeART International), BEST DIRECTOR
(Bootleg), BEST PRODUCER (Queens International); with Clay Liford’s
short film MY MOM SMOKES WEED (2010, Sundance)

April 3-6: Pericles Lewnes’ LOOP (kind of a political David Lynch style film)

After that they have 2 sxsw features, a local film (Lucas’s), and they are trying to get one of this year’s sundance features.

Check them out on Facebook:
Indies for IndiesLucas McNelly is the award-winning filmmaker behind such feel-good movies as BLANC DE BLANC and GRAVIDA. His work has been featured all over the internets, television, and newspapers. Maybe you’ve heard of him, maybe you haven’t.

Last Day of Filming for Twitter 2wkfilm in Pittsburgh

Today is the day that filming ends in Pittsburgh for The Twitter 2wkfilm challenge.

"what started as a joke between a couple of filmmakers on Twitter turned into a challenge: make a feature-length film in two weeks. Yes, two weeks. And I know what you're thinking, that's an insane idea. True, but that's exactly why it's a great one.

You spend two weeks in hell making a film that no one expects to be any good at all. And if you can clear that hurdle and make something people actually want to see, you've got a film that you can say, "We made this in two weeks on a Twitter challenge". That's a pretty good promotional hook, don't you think? There's festivals that would love to show a film like that.

And if it's terrible? Oh well. I doubt anyone will hold that against us.

The rules (such as they are): feature-length (60+ min), have 2 weeks from start of filming to fine cut (but not final cut, so we can color correct and whatever before sending to festivals), and it must be done by the end of May."
..... Lucas McNelly from "Introducing, the 2 week Twitter film"

Date with the Dentist

Yep, I went to San Francisco on March 1st, it was my first night there and out of the vending machine I purchased my downward spiral into tooth ache hell.
It was about the fourth cheesy pretzel nugget and I thought, "Hmm, there is something rather harder than normal in this particular bite, ah I think that might be my tooth." And, it was...a piece of the right upper molar,

Then, a month later, I was at a wedding at the doubletree in pittsburgh, and I put something else in my mouth, took a bite and the rest of the half of that particular tooth, plus the filling, cracked and fell out.
From Wedding ben and becky

Well, that was April 18th and this week around Wed. (May 14) it started hurting considerably, so Friday I went to see my dentist...he just sealed it with something and I made an appt. for June 10th to get a crown. As I was driving away, my tooth began thumping, so I called doc, he said try some advil, anyway, I just came back from the ER and I made an appt. for Monday at 10, the doc will come in earlier to fix my tooth.

What do you do for a toothache? Clove oil? Read some of the precautions on using clove oil:

Cinco de Mayo

We had a very nice Cinco de Mayo.
I just made tacos, but I made them from scratch, not the
tortillas, though.

I cut up onion and browned it and put a pound and an half of ground sirloin. I let that brown a little,
added about 4 tbsp. of chili powder, Mrs. Dash chipolte seasoning, salt, fresh ground multi colored pepper, and 2 minced cloves of garlic. I let it all cook on simmer while I…

cut up tomatoes, lettuce,yellow peppers, onion, openend up some fresh salsa from the store and good quality guacamole and sour cream to use as toppings for the tacos. I also had the large flour tortillas warming in the oven in tin foil.

Served everything with Ice Tea and threw in some white taco chips…..I can tell you we are all stuffed.

What's a Mom to Do about the Swine Flu

I guess I panic right away, because you know how easy it is to catch a cold.I know they say wash your hands, but I still get the cold that my students might have.If it’s airborne how can we Not get it.

So I am thinking the best defense is to eat well.stock up on apples, oranges, any fruit,snack on these instead of junk.make a bag of deep green lettuce, peppers, cukes, parsley…addtomatoes, oil, vinegar, mrs. dash and snack.
Mix some yogurt, nuts, raisins, cranberries, oats for a snack.Make yourself a slushy, mix together plain yogurt, any fruit in a blender…add ice.
Drop the coffee and make a nice pot of green tea.

When you sign in somewhere …use your own pen.
Do not touch doorknobs…wear gloves ( a kleenex) if you can…
Wipe everything down as often as you can if you are at a publicplace like work or school.

Maybe before you have a party at home where germs can spread like crazy…have it at a park pavillion instead.

Washing your hands is the obvious preventative, carry the little packs of hand wipes.
Don’t forget do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth.
Clean off the back packs…esp. handles, your purse and oh, I read that money is very dirty,some businesses near Mexico are having their employees wear latex gloves to handle money.

Don’t forget a few schools have been closed because of the flu.
Just pay attention to your child’s health and perhaps notice whether any of their friends are sick.
Symptoms:
fever
cough
sore throat
body aches
or headache
tiredness

Around the house:
Wipe off your door knobs,light switches, floors, make sureyou thouroughly clean glasses, cups and silverware.
Do a little reading on the subject and pay attention to updates.

Well, we just got our tree today.
We went to a Seabee Christmas Party this past weekend (Sat.)
I was and still am sick. I went to the dinner and we left

went down for breakfast and brought some up to me in the room.

I have been sick since..it is now Wed. Have not done any decorating

Buying a Spy Cam to Protect Your Child

Ok, so you have thought about putting in a spy cam to watch your nanny/babysitter or to make sure your child is safe, but perhaps you aren't sure which company to choose.

mySpycam has several pros that will help make your choice easy:
First the price is good. You can get a good quality product from $99 - $500+.
Next, the quality of the lenses in the cameras and DVR's is extremely sound.

Also, the customer service is excellent. There is livechat on the site and of course you can always phone with any questions. Then, if you are not happy for any reason, just send the spy cam back and they will refund your money, no-questions asked guarantee! You can't beat that policy for making you feel good about your purchase.

mySpyCam shipping is through UPS, so you know you will get your product safely and in a timely manner. You can always use the UPS package tracker. (Plus, their shipping is also discrete....they ship in an unmarked boxed!)

They are the only company that provides you with a video tutorial to actually SHOW you how to install your spy cam. Besides, mySpy Cams are very easy to install.

The company takes pride in the products that they carry! The cams are of the best quality. They actually shop around looking for the best quality manufacturers, now that's something that doesn't happen everyday.

The cams can be used wireless (just like your laptop) and also may be seen via the internet. They are very easily obscured (hidden) because they look like everyday items, this means they are very hard to detect, things such as alarm clocks, baby wipes, etc are actually the spy cams.

Now, why would you want to buy a spy cam? Well, first of all just to give you peace of mind. You will not be guessing whether or not your nanny or babysitter is treating your child the way he or she should, you will KNOW!

Are you wondering, though, exactly HOW a spy cam works?
1) you connect the spy cam to a battery or a power supply and hide it.
2) you connect the wireless receiver to a battery or power supply and conect it to a recording device such as the VCR, DVR (digital video recorder) or to your computer if you want to view it from another place that has internet access.
3) and then, you tune the receiver to detect the video that the spy cam is transmitting.

There are two main types: wireless spy cams, and self-contained spy cams (spy cams that have everything you need, including the recording device in one unit.)

As you can see this company has thought of everything to provide you with the best service and the best product you can buy at the best prices!

Here are a few testimonials to read:
“The customer service was outstanding! I couldn’t ask for a better experience!”
- Yolanda R. El Paso, Texas

“I’m an idiot with electronics, but the camera I got was so easy… I just put the battery in and that was it! I can now watch my little girl while I’m at work!”
- Carrie F. Santa Clarita, CA

“I got the alarm clock cam to see if my girlfriend was cheating… she wasn’t! I was just paranoid. It was super easy though and I now use the spy cam to watch my house when I’m away.”

You can get your spy cam from Manny at My Spy Cam (905) 509-2226

Weekend Getaways

Sometimes life is overwhelming.You get sooo busy you can't focus on anything.That means it's time for you to get away from it all.If you haven't tried a weekend/midweek getawayyou should!

Just make sure you don't take your laptop (unless it's part of your relaxation process or you promise to only do FUN, exploratory, surfing type things from which you can learn something new, add something different to your mindset)

Do take along a book you would like to read...one that you are truly interested in.....or one that will open up old rusty pathways and refresh and revitalize them.

Take along a sketchbook or journal...you can start your first novel or sketch the surroundings in a leisurely manner.

This is just a great way to get yourself out of a rut that seems to have insurmountable sides. Once you return and feel refreshed you can look at your problem and come up with solutions you may never have realized if you had remained in the middle of the crisis.Every good manager knows that his charges need to get away to renew their perspectives.

Midweek Getaway

This past week B. and I took a mid week break.

We drove up to Cook Forest and stayed in a place
we haven't been in for quite some time...it is under
new ownership.
We stayed in Suite 2....It sits up in the trees.
It's as if you are staying in a tree house.
We arrived Wed. night and for dinner went to
Vince's Tavern

It was bike night. B. had steak and I had

a beef roast sandwich, both were very good.

We retired back to the suite....I sat on the deck reading
my book. B. sat inside reading his....we both enjoyed the
quiet of the woods outside.

We met our grandson, Damon and took him home

Today was fathers day.
this morn our daughter, Julie and her boyfriend, Joey, gave Bernie
a painting:

they stayed up all night painting it!

Then, our daughter Rachel called us and said they wanted to take B. for breakfast so we

met them at First Watch....very deelicious. I had something with avacodos, hmmm; Bernie had French toast. Rachel and Peter gave Bernie a photo of Liam:

I really like the frame....We then all went to Barnes and Noble and read books...I took Liam to play with the train in the back.
B. and I left and went home....I dropped B. off and went onto supermarket and bought some steak....
Gretchen callled and she came over She brought a very nice card and a strawberry pie from eatnpark.

We at a very good steak, sweet potatoes, green beans and corn on the cob.

While the Kids are at Bonnaroo

It's a very lazy rainy day here in western pa
my kids are gone....off at bonnaroo....spent yesterday in
the blue room of the bonnaroo site watching the concerts to
see if i could see the kids in the crowd.
hmmm....
nice not to have to cook,
thurs. we went to buy some paint markers at
micheals and then onto barnes and noble where I got
a cappuccino and b. a coffee.
Friday, b. and I went to rogers...flea market in ohio...

we ate a steak sandwich and fries...ok, i am
off my diet while the kids are gone.
it was sooooooooooooo hot i went without a sun hat
had to buy one.
we bought some tomato plants, and herbs.
then, b. had grandson Sam over to make a shoe shine box
for his dad. while he was doing that i was in the air conditioned bedroom
watching bonnaroo.
then about 10:30 we went to jerry's curb service:

I had a cheeseburger...b. had a dble cheeseburger.

This morn we got up and went to Garrison Days in Beaver

It use to be a fair for Artists but somehow it now only features about
15 or so...the rest are crafters and antiques and colletibles.
Bernie enjoyed looking at some antique boxes and woodworking and art;
i enjoyed looking over some handmade jewelry
We are back home now, B. is out in the studio usi ng his paint markers
and I am writing my blog.

We are thinking about hitting the art festival in pittsburgh.
we'll see.

Food Before Bonaroo

The kids are leaving for Bonaroo tomorrow... Photobucket
so I have had to make some dinners for them...

I bought four Cellone Pizza Shells,
2 cans of Italian Sauce (Dei Fratelli) 28oz.
2 cans of Italian/Herb (Contadina) Paste 6oz.
2pkg. of four cheese Italian shredded 8oz.
1 block of mozarella cheese .72lb.
1 pkg. of sliced mushrooms 8oz.
1 pkg. of sliced baby bella mushrooms 8oz.
1 red pepper sliced thin
jar of parmesan cheese
Italian seasoning
Mrs. Dash Table Blend
salt

Grab large mixing bowl. Mix the tomato sauce and
paste in a large bowl. Add some salt, Italian Seasoning
about a tsp., a little of Mrs. Dash and mix very well.

Grate the mozarella chunk into a bowl.

Spread 1 tsp. oil over surface of pizza shell.
Place about two large ladles of sauce on pizza and spread out.
Sprinkle as much cheese as you like...use both kinds.
Fan mushrooms out around pizza cover with a little more sauce.
Place peppers concentrically around and pop in oven for 6 minutes
(450 degrees)
Keep making until you have made four pizzas.....we made one plain..
with just cheese and sauce.

AMomsLove News: Hypermiling

~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Hope you had a happy Mother's Day.
We went out for breakfast ..it was
wonderful... I got to spend lots of
time with one of my grandsons... he drew
a very cute purse for me with a lovely
inscription inside...the other
I saw the next day and received a photo collage.
Both were wonderful gifts.
This issue, I want to talk about Hyper-miling.
We have to deal with the
gas prices as we plan our vacations and also
learn some new ways to save on the gas we use
everyday.
Even if you don't own a hybrid, you can save on
gas mileage by laying off the brake (carefully).
Stepping on the brake every chance you get can waste
a lot of fuel.
Pay attention and see if you tend to
brake unecessarily. Remember, we want to use common sense
here...braking is important, but you may be a nervous braker.
Try to avoid turning on that air conditioner as much as
possible. You can turn off the AC going uphills..I am sure you
have noticed the drag you get...that means you are using more fuel.
Lower you speed: Optimum speed for cars and LIGHT trucks is 55-60mph.
This technique is well know to save fuel and lives. There is some
controversy. ..do your own tests...do you get better mileage doing 55
on a trip or perhaps 62-68?
Read about it here:
http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/ showthread. php?t=10986
Try to time stop lights....lower your speed going into
a red light so you have a chance of catching it green..
although, you definitely still want to proceed cautiously
through the intersection!
Avoid left turns....Go around the block instead..you can end
up getting there quicker, rather than sitting at that stop light
trying to make a left hand turn.
Some hypermilers park near slopes so they can use gravity to
get their cars going rather than gas...just remember the time
you were so low on gas, you used coasting techniques.. .but, please
be safe...you don't want people to run into you from behind!
I hope some of these ideas help you save fuel....if possible, get
out the bike..but that's a whole other newsletter.
